Cylinders with Guides

Pneumatic cylinders come in a wide variety of styles and configurations. They are used to generate motion and force for a wide range of applications, moving materials directly or indirectly. Cylinders can pull, push, lower, lift or rotate – or be prevented from rotating by the addition of guide blocks or rods, or sometimes dual or multiple piston rods. Cylinders with guides are recommended for use with applications with substantial offset loads, or loads that need guiding, e.g. during passage on a conveyor.

What Are Pneumatic Cylinders with Guides?

Pneumatic cylinders can produce massive amounts of force at escalating velocities, don't overheat even at high speed, and don't get damaged through stalling. Cylinders with guides provide controlled, precise linear motion, and are used particularly if the unit has to withstand high side loads. This type of cylinder can have either plain bearings and guide rods, or a guiding system using recirculating ball bearings. Plain bearing units provide a stronger resistance to lateral forces, while recirculating ball bearings are better suited for applications with heavy torque loads.

Guided cylinders are manufactured in various sizes, including compact versions, and can be used for many different types of application. These units are sturdily built and highly resistant to external lateral forces and torque. Cylinders with guides are usually fitted with flexible cushioning plates, which increase the unit's service life as well as reducing operational noise. The guides and drive are all housed in a single unit which is easy to install and maintenance free.
